How do forwarding emails work?

When you apply without leaving hackajob, Archer fills in the employer's application form from your profile, you check it, and we send it through the employer's own careers site. Some employers' careers sites need every applicant to have an account. For those employers, we set up the account for you with a private forwarding email address. We'll tell you before you apply if an employer needs one.

What is a forwarding email address?

It's an email address made for one application, for example sam.taylor-k7x2pq@mail.archerapply.com. Anything the employer sends to it goes straight to the email on your hackajob profile, so there's no new inbox to check.

Each application gets its own forwarding address and its own account on the employer's site.

ℹ️ You may have a forwarding address created with careerparcel.com. We are moving from careerparcel.com to mail.archerapply.com by the end of November 2026.

Why do some employers need one?

Some careers sites only accept applications from people with an account, and check that account's email before you can apply. Using a forwarding address means we can set up the account and send your application in one go. You don't have to create an account, choose a password or type in details hackajob already has.

Not every employer needs one. If an employer doesn't, we send your application with your own details and nothing changes.

Which emails will I get?

After you apply, you'll get:

  • A "How to access your application" email from us, with your forwarding address and how to sign in to the employer's careers site
  • The employer's usual confirmation email, forwarded to you

Later emails from the employer, like an interview invitation, reach you the same way.

Emails sent through your forwarding address come from mail.archerapply.com. Until the end of November 2026 you might also see careerparcel.com, the older name for the same service. Both are genuine.

How do I know an email is genuine?

Check that the employer and the role match one of your applications in the Applied list on hackajob. If you're still not sure, get in touch with us before you reply or click any links.

How do I sign in to the employer's careers site?

  1. Go to the employer's careers site
  2. Enter your forwarding address as your username or email. You'll find it on the job's page on hackajob
  3. Choose Forgot password, then set a password using the email that arrives in your normal inbox

Can I use my own email instead?

Yes, in two ways:

  • Before you apply: choose "Apply on [employer]'s website" and create your own account there
  • After you apply: sign in to the employer's careers site and change the email on your profile. Only you can do this: we can't change it for you. Then tell us on hackajob, so we can keep tracking your application.

To tell us, open the job's page on hackajob and choose I've changed it. We fill in your hackajob email for you: change it if the employer has a different one, then choose Save. There's no code to confirm, and we save the email exactly as you type it, so check it's right. From then on, sign in to the employer's careers site with that email. If it changes again, choose Edit.

Changing the email on your hackajob account doesn't change it on any employer's careers site. To have an employer use your new email, change it on their careers site too, then tell us with I've changed it.

How long does a forwarding address last?

It doesn't expire. It keeps forwarding for as long as the service runs, even after you switch the employer to your own email, so nothing sent to the old address gets lost. If it's deleted, because you asked us to or 30 days after you delete your hackajob account, it stops forwarding.

Can I have my forwarding address deleted?

Yes. Contact us at hello@hackajob.co and we can delete your forwarding address.

Once it's deleted, you can't get back into the employer account it was used for. If you want to keep that account, change it to your own email first.

Deleting your account

When you delete your hackajob account, your forwarding addresses keep working for 30 days, so you have time to switch your employer accounts to your own email. After that, we ask the service that runs them to delete them.

Once a forwarding address is deleted, you can't use it to sign in to the account the employer has for you, and anything the employer sends to it stops reaching you.

So check whether any employer still has a forwarding address for you, for example because an application is still in progress. If one does, sign in to their careers site (see How do I sign in to the employer's careers site? above) and change the email on your profile to your own email, before you delete your account or within 30 days of deleting it. When you start to delete your account, we'll show you a list of those employers and their forwarding addresses. Save it before you go: once your account is deleted, you can't sign back in to see it. You'll also find each address in the "How to access your application" email we sent you.

How do I know my application was sent?

Your Applied list on hackajob shows where each application is:

  • Sending: it's on its way to the employer
  • Applied: the employer has it
  • Not sent: something went wrong, so it hasn't reached the employer (see below)

If you applied with a forwarding email, the Applied list shows the address once the employer has your application, with a link to the sign-in details.

What if my application can't be sent?

Very occasionally, we can't send an application, so it hasn't reached the employer. If that happens, your Applied list shows it as Not sent, the job's page on hackajob says Something went wrong with your application, and we'll email you about it.

While the role is still open, you can apply on the employer's website instead: choose Apply on [employer]'s website. If the role has closed, it can't be applied for any more.

Some employers only accept one application in a set number of days. An application that wasn't sent doesn't count, because it never reached them. If you've applied for another of their roles in that time, though, we'll tell you the date you can apply for this one from.

If you apply on the employer's website and tell us on hackajob that you did (Yes, I applied), the role shows as Applied.

Does Archer write my application for me?

No. We pre-fill a few basic details from your profile, like your name, address and phone number, and you can change them. You answer every other question yourself, and nothing is sent until you choose to submit.

Some employers include their own text in their form, such as how they use AI in hiring or a link to their privacy policy. We show it to you as part of the form, with working links.
